REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING June 1, 2010

The Waelder City Council met for their regular monthly meeting on June 1, 2010 at Waelder City Hall. Those present were Mike Harris, Robert Tovar, Dora Ramirez, Annie Jackson and Becky Ayala. Mayor Roy Tovar did preside.

The meeting was called to order and a quorum was established.

Councilmember Dora Ramirez canvassed the recount Mayor election votes returns of the 2010 General Election held on Saturday, May 8, 2010.

A motion was made to accept the Recount Canvass of the May 8, 2010 City Election by made Mike Harris with a second by Becky Ayala. The vote was unanimous and the motion was passed.

The statement of Elected Officer and Oath of Office were administered to Mayor Roy Tovar.

A motion was made by Annie Jackson to approve the minutes with a second by Robert Tovar. The vote was unanimous and the motion was passed.

A motion was made by Robert Tovar to approve the payment of the bills with a second by Becky Ayala. The vote was unanimous and the motion was passed.

A motion was made by Mike Harris to approve the financial reports with a second by Annie Jackson. The vote was unanimous and the motion was passed.

Open Forum: Felipe Martinez (President of the Waelder Community Center) spoke to the City Council that the Waelder Community Center. The Waelder Community Center Board feels that they are in a position to take back over the Waelder Community Center. They feel that they as a board have neglected some of the paperwork that has to be done for the IRS. The board might hire someone from the city. He said, the IRS was cracking down on all the organizations that were being misused. He spoke to David Urban about doing a yearly audit. The Mayor and Councilman Harris agreed on looking into this with TML Legal Department.

The City of Waelder applied for a grant in 2009 for 1st time Water and Wastewater Service (Texas Community Block Development Block Grant) and were granted the money. Councilmember Becky Ayala went to Golden Crescent Regional in Victoria, Texas to receive a check for the amount of $250,000.00. The grant will serve 11 households and will cover near N. 4th Street and S. 1st St.

A motion was made by Annie Jackson to adjourn with a second by Becky Ayala. The vote was unanimous and the motion was passed.
